I have met some interesting people and it’s time to tell you about them – before I forget!!

On my trip south to the Algarve, I stopped overnight in Salamanca. As I set up my caravan in 32C heat, my neighbour came over with a cold beer. It was Craig (and Lynne). A week later, in Turiscampo, Craig turns up at my pitch with two cold beers. “You are following me,” I accused.

Craig confessed to being a petrol head, and I admitted I was going to the Lamborghini finals that weekend. Craig begged for a lift and we spent a boy’s day out motor racing.

Doriane Pin was racing a Lamborghini for the first time and happened to sit with me for a chat, shortly after she put her machine on pole. Wow!

Sandra and I met a dutch couple in 2012 on a visit to the Algarve, Patrick and Sandra Dam. We kept in touch and when they learned that I planned to spend a year in Portugal, they invited me to their 25th wedding anniversary party.

They introduced me to their friends, and among them was Flavia Ferreira, originally from Brazil. Flavia hand crafts bracelets, earrings and rings using silk thread.

Flavia asked me to a wine party in Loule, where she was exhibiting new designs. When I arrived, seeing my camera, Flavia asked me to take some photos of the event for her social media. That’s Flavia on the left, the wine party outside the design shop, and Flavia with the shop owner, Helena, and Anna, a silverware designer. Helena was, let’s say, exuberant. She offered her shop to me for a photo exhibition and I had to tell her she was getting a little ahead of herself, and me! It was fun though.

Helena introduced me to her dear friend – April Lee Fields ……

“I didn’t make it up, my name, April Lee Fields, it’s my real name”, were her first words to me.

She told me that she was an author, blues songstress, spoken word artist and former wild child! I felt inadequate. However, I told her I was an author-in-waiting and we spent some time talking books. She had come to Portugal to refocus herself.

April said she was performing in the Spoken Word Festival in Faro. I went to rub shoulders with the arty world and took this picture of April during her performance.

I am listening to one of her books, “A Version of You”, on Audible.
