Paradise can bite back!
After 3 days of very strong easterly winds, I went hunting this morning for a memorable shot on Zavial beach. As I looked through my camera viewfinder, bracing myself from being blown away, this monster suddenly loomed in my lens. Twice as big as anything I had seen this morning. My guess is, it was 10 metres high. The wave went over the top of the 30m cliff on the left. I missed that shot, as I was tearing back up the beach. The wave ran about 100m beyond the tide mark!!
That answers the question why I chose “Run (Snow Patrol)” as the blog title.

I continued on to Martinhal beach, and by then the winds were so strong that they tore my hearing aid out. I could barely stand, but this lone kite surfer was being dragged at 30-40 kph, sometimes disappearing completely under and through the waves. At one stage he emerged upside down, his board in the air.
And, for contrast, this is what a normal February day looks like in Praia da Luz.

Wonderful waves. Castelejo has to be worth a visit too. Go through Vila do Bispo, and up the hill, dropping down to the beach on the left. It’s too wild to miss
These pics are priceless, really awesome
